Corsair GS Series Power Supplies Announced

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced major upgrades to the GS Series line of high-performance power supply units (PSUs). A new improved design boosts energy efficiency, enabling the new GS Series PSUs to achieve 80 PLUS® Bronze certification while also providing quieter, fanless operation at low power loads. The newly enhanced models are available in three wattage models: the GS600, GS700, and GS800.

GS Series power supplies are designed for PC builders who want an affordable, reliable, and efficient power supply that offers visually stunning, customizable looks to match their PC. The power supplies feature user-switchable red, white or blue LED lights that can also be turned off if desired. Further customization is possible with swappable color insert rings which are available for purchase from the Corsair website.

The 80 PLUS certification program was created by utility and computer companies to drive the creation and adoption of more energy-efficient power supplies for desktop computers and servers. Corsair GS Series power supplies now have an upgraded architecture that achieves 80 PLUS Bronze certification to provide up to 85% energy-efficiency under typical usage conditions, resulting in lower energy bills and less heat.

As with all Corsair power supplies, GS Series PSUs offer class-leading voltage stability and ultra-low ripple and noise specifications, for long component life. The 140mm temperature-controlled fan also ensures that GS Series power supplies remain quiet as well as cool. Plus, by operating fanless at load levels below 20% of the model’s wattage rating, each GS Series PSU significantly reduces noise levels.

Corsair Vengeance K60 / M60 and K90 / M90 Input Devices

Dedication. Diligence. Sacrifice. These are the words that describe us here at Hot Hardware, because when we set out to review these Corsair Vengeance gaming keyboards and mice, we sent the family off to bed night after and night and worked deep into the early morning hours. We spent many–many–hours testing, testing, and testing some more, all for you, dear readers.

Granted, the primary testing method was gaming, but that counts as work in this industry.

We’re also typing this review with the keyboards (in turn), and after spending some quality time with the Corsair Vengeance K60 keyboard/M60 mouse and K90 keyboard/K90 mouse combos, we’re fans of all four devices.

Corsair is relatively new to the gaming peripherals market, and the company undoubtedly took its time refining these products before stepping up to compete. The mechanical keyboards are designed to enhance gamers’ performance, with the K60 tailored for First-Person Shooters and the K90 for RTS and MMO gaming, and they’re built to withstand years of abuse, resist crud buildup under the keys, and look good too.

The M60 and M90 mice are designed to complement the K60 and K90 keyboards, respectively. Although the mice have quite a bit in common, they have a few features that set them apart from one another and make them a bit more suited to one type of gaming over another. We’ll dig into those items shortly.

We admit, it’s a bit difficult to write about keyboards and mice, because so much of the experience is subjective. People have differently-sized hands, shorter or longer fingers, different typing styles, different gaming styles, preferred feature sets, and last but not least, differences in taste of course. With that in mind, we’ll do our best to give you the whole story as well as our experience and let you ascertain how the K60/M60 or K90/M90 may suit you.

Noctua’s DH-14 CPU Cooler, Sandy Bridge-E Tested and Burned In

A few months back, we examined the performance of four liquid coolers for the Sandy Bridge-E socket LGA 2011 platform: Corsair’s H80 and H100, Maingear’s Epic 180, and Intel’s own reference cooler. Liquid coolers are popular with high-end OEMs and some enthusiasts, but they aren’t cheap — and there’s a certain group of enthusiasts who aren’t comfortable with flowing liquid in their systems.

Recently, we spoke with the team at Noctua, who offered to send us one of its high-end air coolers for comparison. We’ve been curious about the company since it came across our radar with its upgrade offer for anyone upgrading to Socket 2011 last year.

The Noctua DH-14 is a mammoth air cooler that competes performance-wise with many self-contained liquid coolers.

Corsair Announces New Line of Solid-State Cache Drives

Corsair Smokes World Record With Dominator GT CMGTX6 RAM

Boasting, are we? Corsair has just announced that a new overclocking world record has been set. One that apparently shatters the previous memory frequency world record with a custom-built liquid nitrogen cooled system. The record? They hit a memory frequency of 1733.8MHz (DDR3-3467) using Corsair Dominator GT CMGTX6 extreme-performance DDR3 memory.

World champion overclocker and Corsair employee Jake “Planet” Crimmins set the new record at Corsair’s laboratory with a custom-designed, liquid nitrogen cooled PC based on an AMD FX-8150 processor and equipped with 1GB of Dominator GT extreme-performance DDR3 memory. The system was powered by a Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 fully modular power supply.

“Breaking overclocking world records requires skill, ingenuity, and the right equipment,” said Jake Crimmins. “I’ve broken several records using Dominator GT memory. It’s reliable, it has amazing headroom, and it’s never let me down.” So, anyone placing bets on how long the record stands?
