December 31st, 2010

Windows Operating System solutions are now available by new remote online diagnostics. These new tools are successfully used today help to identify almost any problem or failure that computer owners are having. Windows errors are no exception. The latest comprehensive diagnostic tools are used to test the entire computer system including the Windows operating system, which includes the BIOS and memory, software, and even the hardware that is attached to the computer. A free online exam is available at http://www.RemoteSupportComputerRepair.com or by calling (972) 234-0655. Based in the USA, technicians are available 24/7.

The most common types of problems will occur when the computer is down to very low resources, which can either be a low amount of RAM, or a low disk space. These conditions are common, and generally result in the computer running very slow. This can easily be fixed, all that is needed is to defrag the hard drive, and get rid of some programs and files that are no longer used or need.

The latest comprehensive remote support diagnostic tools can find and fix just about any problem that exists. It normally starts off with a BIOS examination, and goes on from there. New remote PC diagnostics software can determine a lot from the BIOS, from the common settings to those that have a major impact on both boot up and performance. Windows errors are also detected this way too. If a repair is needed. A well trained professional technician will either have the needed drivers or be able to find them online and to install them quickly.

Never modify or tamper with the BIOS settings, as it can lead to more serious problems. Another valuable piece of advice is if changes are ever made to the operating systems, always create a backup file first, just in case something goes wrong. The BIOS settings can be very tricky, they are responsible for a lot to do with the computer. Only experienced technicians should consider making changes in the BIOS settings.

To help prevent people trying to diagnose their own computer issues, PC-HouseCall, a Richardson, TX based IT support firm, started www.RemoteSupportComputerRepair.com. They offer anyone the opportunity to call (972) 234-0655, or to go onto the website and get a free comprehensive exam including Windows, the BIOS, the RAM memory, and every other significant part of a laptop or PC.

Simple fixes are normally diagnosed and repaired within an hour. The more complicated problems, such as hardware failures or hard drive crashes, are a totally different story. They will require a technician who is very experienced, that can rebuild the hardware. Diagnostic software can report hardware problems, although most of the time it is unable to fix it. If the system cannot be repaired over the telephone and the web, PC HouseCall will dispatch a repair technician to the home or office for clients who are based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Texas area. If not, they can refer a qualified local support tech.

NASA Signs $2.5B Contract With HP

December 31st, 2010

NASA has just signed a huge contract with Hewlett-Packard for IT goods and services.

the $2.5 million, 10-year deal includes computer networks, hardware, software, peripherals and “everything that’s plugged into the wall,” as NASA spokesperson Michael Sweigart told Bloomberg.

HP is taking over many services currently provided by Lockheed Martin.

Hewlett-Packard has had an interesting year, one perhaps most significantly marked by a CEO-shakeup saga. In early August, HP ousted then-CEO Mark Hurd following sexual harassment claims. Shortly after Hurd’s firing, he was hired as Oracle’s new co-president.

Still, while the company’s leadership saw some big changes, it finished the year strongly, reporting decent fourth-quarter revenue growth. We’re sure a hefty contract from NASA will help the company’s financials as well as help direct attention away from CEO issues and toward what looks to be a promising new year.

Online CE, PC sales soar this season

December 30th, 2010

Consumer electronics and computer hardware and software were among the fastest-growing e-commerce categories this holiday season, a new comScore study shows.

Online sales of CE soared 21 percent over the Nov. 1-Dec. 23 period, trailing only books and magazines (up 22 percent) and computer hardware, which topped the charts with 23 percent growth year over year.

Computer software (excluding PC games) was the fourth fastest-growing category, up 20 percent, while video gaming hardware and software posted a more modest 9 percent gain.

CE and IT helped drive total online sales to a record $30.8 billion, a 13-percent increase over last year.

comScore said purchases of handheld devices such as e-readers, Apple iPads and laptop computers contributed to much of the computer category’s growth.

The biggest single spending day was Cyber Monday (Nov. 29), when consumers ordered more than $1 billion of merchandise online, while Free Shipping Day (Dec. 17) saw the greatest year-over-year growth, with sales up 61 percent to $942 million.

“For at least this holiday season, the American consumer has been able to shrug off the continuing economic challenges of high unemployment rates and depressed housing prices and spend at a rate that has been slightly stronger than we had expected.,” said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni. “After the past few years’ struggles, it is gratifying to see e-commerce return to a state that can only be described as a very merry holiday shopping season.”

ITC backs Rambus with probe into 34 hardware companies

December 30th, 2010

The International Trade Commission (ITC) has launched an investigation into 34 firms following a lawsuit by Rambus earlier this month.

The ITC is probing the companies to see if they have violated Section 337 of the 1930 Tariff Act, which prohibits the importation of products into the US that have been found to infringe another company’s patents.

Rambus filed a lawsuit on December 1 against LSI, MediaTek, STMicroelectronics, Broadcom, Freescale Semiconductor and Nvidia, claiming that the companies infringed its patents relating to PCI Express, Serial ATA, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, mobile DDR, and GDDR3 technology.

The ITC’s investigation goes much further than Rambus’ lawsuit. It includes the companies named above, along with dozens of others who utilise the Rambus patented technology, at least some of which can be found in most computers around the world.

The ITC is set to hold an evidentiary hearing at some point in the New Year, with a date for completion of the investigation expected within 45 days. A decision will then become final after a further 60 days.

If the ITC rules in favour of Rambus, which it has done in the past in a case against Nvidia, many or all of the companies will be issued a cease and desist letter, which will prevent them from importing their products into the lucrative US market unless they licence the chip technology from Rambus.

The companies in question are: Freescale Semiconductor, Broadcom, LSI, Mediatek, Nvidia, STMicroelectronics N.V, STMicroelecronics, Inc., Asustek, Asus, Audio Partnership, Biostar Microtech (U.S.A.) Corp., Biostar Microtech International, Cisco Systems, Elitegroup Computer Systems, EVGA, Galaxy Micro Systems, Garmin International, G.B.T., Gigabyte Technology, Gracom Technologies, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Jaton Corporation, Jaton Technology TPE, Micro-star International, MSI, Motorola, OPPO Digital, Palit Microsystems, Pine Technology Holdings, Seagate Technology, Sparkle Computer, Zotac International (MCO), and Zotac USA Inc.
