Gateway launches wimax-equipped nv series notebook

Gateway has updated its NV notebook series, adding a new model that ships with integrated WWAN support.

Along with the expected 802.11 Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet network connectivity, the 15.6-inch (1366×768) NV59C66u packs a built-in Intel 6250 WiMAX card — though, it might not be the best time to jump on that bandwagon.

Many customers report that Clearwire is throttling speeds from 10Mb/s to 0.25Mb/s once after consuming about 7GB to 10GB in a month.

Processor options range from Intel’s Core i3/i5 to AMD’s Athlon/Turion chips.

The NV59C66u ships with 4GB of DDR3 RAM (expandable to 8GB), as much as 500GB of storage, a DVD or Blu-ray drive, HDMI output, a multitouch trackpad, and Gateway’s “social networking button” for quick access to Facebook, YouTube and so on.

The company is shipping its WiMAX-equipped NV for $700 with plans to release more updates to the series over the coming weeks, starting at $480.

Gateway has also upgraded its ZX One all-in-one desktops, adding more “design choices, configurations and price points.”

Both the 21.5-inch ZX4951 and 23-inch ZX6951 have Blu-ray drives and 1080p (multitouch) displays, making them capable home media systems.

The smaller model carries a 2.8GHz Pentium dual-core, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB HDD, while the larger one ups that to a 3.2GHz Core i3, 640GB of storage, and a TV Tuner.

Both are available today for $899 and $999.
