Apple has always been looking for ways to innovate and present its products with unique propositions.

As per a recent patent filing unearthed online by AppleInsider, Apple has been working on an adjustable stand for transitioning between input modes for a touchscreen display.

The adjustable stand would be able to detect the change based on various sensors such as accelerometers and position sensors. Yes, we can anticipate touchscreen iMac computers in future.

The patent filing title – ‘Transitioning between Modes of Input’ covers usage of a screen from mouse-based input interface to touch-based input interface.

These input methods are differentiated by resolutions – shifting from high-resolution like keyboard and mouse based interface to a low-resolution like touch based input methods.

The best example of this is the all in one iMac computer. Orientation change can be detected by one or more sensors that respond according to the change in input modes as well as the user interface.

This patent was filed on July 9, 2009 listing inventor as Paul Costa, Hardware Engineering Manager at Apple.

The company loves to play around with interface to add more value for the consumers. Just like marketing the iPad with a dock and keyboard, it’s quite likely Apple might be planning to introduce touchscreen based iMacs.

At this moment, Apple offers 21.5-inch iMac and 27-inch iMac models. Introducing huge touchscreen based iMac is certainly a big bet for Apple. We’ve to wait and see if Apple will bring touchscreen iMacs with adjustable stands.
