CHIP DESIGNER AMD says that has been wining and dining a few of its partners who will help it release a cheap-as-chips Single Link Displayport-to-DVI adapter.

The whole thing is part of Chimpzilla’s Eyefinity system and comes on the heels of the recently announced increase in AMD-powered discrete graphics options for the Apple Imac and Mac Pro.

AMD has been doing quite well off the back of its Microsoft DirectX 11 support and in nine months it has shipped more than 16 million DirectX 11-capable GPUs.

Matt Skynner, AMD corporate VP and general manager of the GPU division said that he was pleased with the outfit’s move to DirectX 11 by rolling out a top-to-bottom DirectX 11 product line before anyone else launched a DirectX 11 part.

By providing an inexpensive Single Link DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter, with a suggested retail price of $30 US, AMD says it has expanded the Eyefinity ecosystem to include the massive number of LCD monitors with DVI connectors and resolutions up to 1920×1200.

This encompasses the vast majority of monitors sold today, with many models available for well under $200 each.

Now, Eyefinity multi-monitor solutions are within reach of virtually everyone, from die-hard gaming enthusiasts to individuals wanting more screen real estate to improve workflow, Skynner said.
