Axway and MaxID announced Monday a single hand-held toolkit for identity verification to protect critical security areas, such as the nation’s ports.
“Barring unauthorized individuals from sensitive areas is essential but more difficult to roll out than one might imagine,” Taher Elgamal, chief security officer for Axway, said in a news release.
“In addition, more intelligent credentialing involving biometrics is also under discussion in Washington, D.C., making the landscape even harder to navigate. With this as backdrop, government entities and organizations interacting with the government must come up with a secure and reliable method to determine if an individual is authorized to be in a particular area. This partnership meets that need and leverages both organizations’ deep expertise in identity verification in a government environment.”
The companies’ offering combines hardware and software to deliver identity verification on-the-go by incorporating Axway Validation Authority Suite products, which authorize the validation status of digital certificates, with MaxID’s hand-held iDL500 mobile computer.
The companies said the result is a single WiFi-enabled tool that is capable of reading TWIC and PIV cards to process and validate credentials.
TWIC stands for Transportation Worker Identity Car, while PIV refers to Personal Identity Verification card. Both were mandated for workers at ports and other critical facilities under a 2004 government order.
