The benefits of server virtualisation are becoming apparent for all businesses, it has been claimed. Writing for CRN, Adam Turner stated even small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are beginning to purchase software of this kind to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
He noted by consolidating hardware, virtualisation platforms are able to drive energy expenditure down, while increasing a company’s ability to change quickly to modified circumstances.
“The flexibility of a virtualised server environment allows the channel to provide enterprise-grade remote management, high availability and disaster recovery services that were previously out of reach for many SMEs,” Mr Turner remarked.
According to the expert, in-house virtualisation can then lead on to further price reductions through hosted services or moving to the cloud. Earlier this month, Charlie Schluting noted in an Enterprise Networking Planet article that switching to virtualised environments has great monetary advantages, particularly in terms of hardware and energy overheads.
